Dr. Ellis-Lai has recruited, trained, and coordinated college student volunteers from the Department of English and the Honors College at Texas State University for an annual National Day of Writing event at DeZevala Elementary School in San Marcos, Texas. Many of these student volunteers have gone on to work as professional teachers upon graduation.
A future service project is currently in development at the San Marcos High School for Texas State University students who are interested in becoming a writing mentor to local high school students. If you’re interested in serving as an undergraduate or graduate student writing tutor mentor for these college-bound high school juniors and seniors, please email Dr. Ellis-Lai at LE17@txstate.edu.
