Dr. Ellis-Lai has recruited, trained, and coordinated college student volunteers from the Department of English and the Honors College at Texas State University for an annual National Day of Writing event at DeZevala Elementary School in San Marcos, Texas. Many of these student volunteers have gone on to work as professional teachers upon graduation.
A brand new service project is currently underway at San Marcos High School. Dr. Ellis-Lai has invited Texas State University students to serve as Writing Mentors to local high school students who are enrolled in the school district’s Early College High School program. If you’re interested in serving as an undergraduate or graduate student writing tutor and mentor for these dual credit high school juniors, please email Dr. Ellis-Lai at LE17@txstate.edu.
