Faculty Development

Dr. Ellis-Lai helps to facilitate the Online Teaching Collective, a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) in the Department of English that offers lunch time sessions on various online teaching topics of interest to English faculty – including both class-specific assignments and online teaching tools and strategies. We’d love to hear about the assignments and teaching tools that have worked well with your students! Our first FLC topic will be “Avoiding Burnout with Efficient, Engaging Teaching Strategies” from 12-1 pm on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025. Please contact Dr. Ellis-Lai at LE17@ txstate.edu for the Zoom link if you’d like to join us!

Dr. Ellis-Lai has also co-facilitated a weekly “Let’s Do Lunch” FLC for faculty across all academic departments and colleges at Texas State University with Dr. Candace Hastings and Dr. Carrie Boden through the Office of Faculty Development. This faculty group discussed topics having to do with innovating our teaching across a variety of teaching modalities, including face to face, hybrid, hy-flex, and asynchronous online instruction. Together, we have found instructional inspiration, broadened our network of colleagues from across the Texas State University campus, and learned how to better serve our amazing students!
